Gourgen Arsenyan was born on November 22, 1959 in Yerevan.
Mr. Arsenyan received his degree in economics from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy in 1980. He was awarded the Moscow 850th Anniversary Medal in 1998.
In 1980 he worked as an economist in the cement plant in Ribnitsa, Moldova. From 1981-1982 he served in the Soviety Army. From 1983-1986 he was a senior economist in the Hayelectramechmat complex of the Masis region while at the same time serving as the secretary of the LYCU committee. From 1987-2000 he had his own business. From 1991-1992 was a member of the Republican Party of Armenia board. The next three years he spent working in Moscow. In 1997 he was elected president of the Arsoil AC CJSC and Hayagrobank. Since 1999 he has been the vice president of the Intergovernmental Association of Agricultural Production Banks.
2000-2003 was his first term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district # 29) where he served on the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was not involved in any of faction or deputy group.
On May 25, 2003 he was reelected as a deputy to the NA from the proportional list of the United Labor Party and currently sits on the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations. He heads the United Labor Party Faction and is also its founding president.
Mr. Arsenyan is married and has two children.
