Vardges Matevosyan was born on February 1, 1945 in the village of Aghavnadzor in the Yeghegnadzor region.
Mr. Matevosyan graduated with a degree in engineering-mechanics from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in 1980.
From 1966-1968 he served in the Soviet Army. From 1968-1970 he worked as a locksmith in the Avtovaz Plant in Tolyati, Russia. He spent the next seven years as the representative of Avtovaz in Armenia. From 1977-1993 he was the director of the Avtovaz Center in Ararat and from 1993-1999 he was the director of Yerevan Bread Factory # 4.
1999-2003 was his first term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district # 72) and he sat on the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He was also a member of the Unity Faction.
On May 25, 2003 he was reelected to the NA from the proportional list of the Republican Party of Armenia and he currently serves on the NA Standing Committee of State and Legal Affairs. He is a member of both the Republican Party of Armenia Faction and party.
Mr. Matevosyan is married and has three children.
