RA NA President Galust Sahakyan’s Congratulatory Address on 25th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
1 / 1

Dear Compatriots,

I congratulate you on the 25th Anniversary of Declaration of Independence.

A quarter century ago, on this day, by the adoption of the Independence Declaration we rang to the world our decisive herald call, which symbolized our sincere desire, unceasing wish and irreversible aspiration. It was the ratification of the objective reality, the fixation of the ripe time into the reality.

The Declaration of Independence was a document generated out of a dream, rather than forcing us to dream, which put on the practical bases the things that had existed in sovereignty -oriented people’s mind, spirit and heart. Our understanding of lifestyle had lived in our thinking, in our value system and psychology, but for different reasons hadn’t become a reality or had had a temporary nature. The Declaration knit it from the past, formulated it into the present and forwarded it to the future.

We declared that we didn’t forget the country, didn’t deny the present, but we deserved and were determined to have brighter future, to create and build it with our own hands by the force of spirit, mind and body. We declared and confidently confirmed it with a nationwide referendum a year later, we declared that we as a nation, on the contrary to some others, hadn’t been of a temporary nature in any stage of the history and would always have a presence throughout the world with our potential, desire to vitality and perseverance.

Dear compatriots,

25 years ago the Armenian Parliament, expressing the united will of the people, adopted the Declaration of Independence, standing at the threshold of creating a new state, building a new country. The Declaration is the first legal cornerstone in the new history of the Armenian Parliament. Today also, the higher legislative body with its constitutional functions consistently continues to fulfill the provisions of the Declaration; Declaration which leads us through the way of a quarter century, but which seems not far, obliges us not to stop looking forward with optimism and confidently move forward, or else today may seem hopeless, and tomorrow – unreachable. We ought to be optimistic and charge this optimism with tangible steps, visible successes and victories always available for us.

I wish you peace, welfare and all the best.
