On November 12 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received the Minister of Tourism and Sport of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Lilian Keshishian.
Highlightig the Minister’s visit to Armenia the NA President emphasized the deepening of inter-parliamentary relations, the cooperation in the spheres of tourism, science, education, culture and other spheres together with the development of inter-state relations. Highly appreciating the role of the influential Armenian community of Uruguay in the reinforcement of the Armenian-Uruguayan relations, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed satisfaction with the policy adopted by the Uruguayan authorities towards the Armenian community. “In the basis of the relations of the two countries the traditional friendship of the Armenian and Uruguayan peoples is laid,” the NA President noted. Hovik Abrahamyan highly assessed the fact that the Parliament of Uruguay was the first in the world to adopt the resolution of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Thanking for the reception Lilian Keshishian highly appreciated the friendly relations between the two countries. The Minister highlighted the further development of the bilateral relations in different spheres and noted that the development of tourism could be one of the directions of activation of the Armenian-Uruguayan relations and expressed readiness to convey the experience accumulated in this sphere to the Armenian counterparts. She also highlighted the cooperation in the spheres of culture, science and education. Mrs Keshishian noted that ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide a museum dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide would be opened by the support of the Government in one of the central squares of Montevideo, capital of Uruguay.
In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
