On December 3 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received Hoshyar Zebari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.
Welcoming the guest the NA President expressed conviction that the visit of the Foreign Minister of Iraq would essentially promote the further development and deepening of the relations between the two countries. He has noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-Iraqi relations are dynamicly developing, and during the recent years serious progress has been recorded: sittings of the Armenian-Iraqi Inter-Governmental Commission has been convened, the Iraqi Embassy has been opened in Yerevan. He has deemed important the development of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, which promotes the strengthening of the bases of mutually beneficial cooperation, the development of inter-state relations, and boosts the formation of the atmosphere of mutual trust. Hovik Abrahamyan has also highlighted the development of the Armenian-Iraqi trade-economic cooperation and has noted that the business circles of the two countries have mutual interest to activate the trade-economic ties, and considerable growth of volumes is already noticeable. As President of the National Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed readiness to support development of the Armenian-Iraqi cooperation aimed at any initiative.
Thanking for the reception the Foreign Minister of Iraq has noted that his country highly assesses the development and deepening of multi-lateral relations with Armenia. He has deemed important the reinforcement of the inter-parliamentary relations and has noted that the bilateral contacts, the activity of the Friendship Groups and the parliamentary diplomacy have an important role in the development and deepening of inter-state relations.
In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
