On December 12 the RA NA President Gakust Sahakyan received the delegation headed by Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. Welcoming the guests, The NA President has noted that during the recent period the dynamic development of the relations between the two countries speaks about the mutual interest of strengthening of bilateral relations and respect towards each other. In Galust Sahakyan’s word, recently the legal-contractual field between Latvia and the Republic of Armenia has more extended, and inter-parliamentary cooperation has developed. The NA President has also highlighted the cooperation of the parliaments of the two countries in the international organizations. Touching upon the decision of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEC), Galust Sahakyan has noted that Armenia continues to be committed to European values and principles: The European Union has been and remains one of the most important counterparts of the Republic of Armenia.
The NA President has also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, reaffirming that Armenia adheres to the principle of the conflict settlement through peaceful means.
At the end of the meeting the RA NA President has expressed hope that the Latvian counterparts will also take part in the events of commemorating the Armenian Genocide innocent victims in April of 2015.
Referring to the decision of Armenia’s accession to the EEC, the Foreign Minister of Latvia has noted that he respects the decision of our country stemming from geo-political situation and national interests. He has documented that the cooperation in all spheres concerning the European Union and Armenia will continue, and for that purpose a road map and new mandate can be worked out.
Expressing the position related to the NK problem Edgars Rinkēvičs particularly has noted that it is unchanged: to support the solution of the problem through peaceful negotiations.
Referring to the Armenian-Latvian bilateral relations, the Minister has positively assessed the political relations of our countries, however has noticed that it is necessary to develop the cooperation in the economic and educational spheres.
