STATEMENT OF THE
NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

REGARDING THE CRISIS SITUATION, THE EXISTING PROBLEMS IN THE FRONTIER ZONES, IN PARTICULAR IN SYUNIK AND GEGARKUNIK AND THE MEANS OF THEIR SOLUTIONS, WITH THE ISSUES DIRECTED TO ENSURE THE DEFENCE AND SECURITY OF THE BORDERS

The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia states that on May 12, 2021, the Azerbaijani armed forces, under the pretense of “clarifying the borders” and carrying out certain works on one of the border sections of the Syunik province, entered the territory of the Republic of Armenia towards the territory of Sev Lich (Black Lake) of Syunik going deeper for several kilometers towards the village of Verishen.

Several hundred representatives of the Azerbaijani armed forces at this moment continue to be on the territory of the Republic of Armenia - in some areas of the Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces.

At the meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, held on May 13 of this year, it was recorded that this is already the third day, that a crisis situation remains around the Sev Lich (Black Lake) of the Syunik province and in the adjacent territories.

These actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces are unacceptable for the Republic of Armenia. This is an obvious encroachment on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Armenia will in no case tolerate this situation.

Taking into Consideration the anti-Armenian warlike policy conducted by Azerbaijan, the overt  aspirations of the leadership of Azerbaijan in the recent period regarding the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, including the numerous statements containing the threat of the use of force, as well as the Armenophobia propagandized at the state level for decades: the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia with the utmost severity condemns the encroachments of Azerbaijan on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and states that the aggressive policy conducted by Azerbaijan violates the fundamental principles of international law enshrined by the UN Charter, which give the Republic of Armenia the right to carry out adequate actions provided for by international law, the Constitution and the legislation of the Republic of Armenia.

The National Assembly, as the highest representative body of the people of the Republic of Armenia:

VICE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY          A. SIMONYAN
