1 / 6

On March 14, the joint sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the RF FA Council of Federation Committee on International Affairs co-chaired by Armen Ashotyan and Konstantin Kosachev continued its work.

The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Hermine Naghdalyan and the Chair of the RF FA Council of Federation Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev delivered a speech within the framework of the theme The Cooperation in the International Parliamentary Structures.

The rapporteurs presented the joint work of the delegations to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CSTO PA, the IPA CIS, PABSEC, the OSCE PA, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, as well as PACE, highlighted the coordinated and mutually beneficial cooperation and touched upon the necessity of enlivening of the ties. They expressed concern over the activities of PABSEC. Hermine Naghdalyan noted that PABSEC has moved away from the economic essence of its activities and had been politicized.

Stressing the inter-parliamentary ties in the development of the inter-state relations, Hermine Naghdalyan has underlined with satisfaction that the delegations of the two countries effectively cooperate on a number of international parliamentary platforms. By the speaker’s assessment, the parliamentary diplomacy is more flexible and gives an opportunity to the legislators to discuss and present a wide scope of issues. She also referred to the importance of the inter-parliamentary cooperation in the context of turning into parliamentary government. Hermine Naghdalyan emphasized the activation of the contacts of the delegations and their heads, the meetings in the framework of such events, the holding of the debates of different formats which would give an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation of the delegations, assess the joint efforts and understand the priorities.

Konstantin Kosachev also considered important the regular meetings of the heads of the delegations, the coordinated cooperation of the delegations and conveying each other the positions on different items.

At the end of the sitting the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan and the Chair of the RF FA Council of Federation Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev signed a joint statement.
