On March 9, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation led by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Swedish Kingdom Lotta Johnsson Fornarve. The RA NA Deputy Speaker Lena Nazaryan also attended the meeting.

The Head of the legislative body highly assessed Lotta Johnsson Fornarve’s pro-Armenian activities in Sweden, as well as on the international parliamentary platforms, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the mutually beneficial cooperation with Sweden, noting that in recent years positive dynamics of development of relations had been noticed also in terms of deepening of the inter-parliamentary ties. In this context the NA Speaker has noted that Armenia-Sweden Friendship Group is in the phase of formation.

Touching upon the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the European Union, Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the quick ratification of the document by the EU member countries as soon as possible. The Head of the parliament expressed hope that ahead of the 10^th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership the inter-state process would reach a tangible stand. On this occasion the Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament has noted that the ratification process is implemented in accordance with the inner procedures of her country that the ratification by the parliament would not delay.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his gratitude to the Parliament of Sweden for the adoption of the resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide, as well as for the position towards the NK conflict settlement.

In his word the Head of the legislative body highly evaluated the participation of Sweden in the programme Support to the Electoral Processes of Armenia before the parliamentary elections.

Lotta Johnsson Fornarve conveyed the official invitation of the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament to Ararat Mirzoyan for visiting Sweden.

The Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament also emphasized the expansion of bilateral ties, the activation of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, presented the pro-Armenian events implemented in the parliament of her country.

Lotta Johnsson Fornarve welcomed the democratic processes occurred in Armenia in 2018 and the reforms being implemented, noting that the Armenian people could peacefully make positive changes.

Ararat Mirzoyan awarded Lotta Johnsson Fornarve the RA NA Speaker’s Memorial Medal for her significant contribution to the development of the Armenian-Swedish inter-parliamentary relations.
