Armenian Parliamentarians Have a Number of Meetings with Colleagues of European Parliament

On December 2-5, the RA NA delegation was in Brussels to hold discussions with the colleagues,

where were the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Ruben Rubinyan, the Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan and the Head of the RA NA Delegation to Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Gayane Abrahamyan.

Within the framework of the visit the RA NA delegation had meetings with the Rapporteur on Armenia in the European Parliament, the Former President of Romania, the Member of the EPP Group Traian Basescu, the Coordinator on Foreign Affairs of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Tonino Picula, the Vice President of the EPP Group in the European Parliament Andrey Kovatchev, the Coordinator on Foreign Affairs of the EPP Group Michael Gahler, the Head the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Euronest Andrius Kubilius, the Head of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee Marina Kaljurand, the Vice President of the European Parliament, the Member of the Greens/European Free Alliance Group Heidi Hautala, the Vice President of the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament Iskra Mihaylova and the Vice Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee Rasa Jukneviciene.

During the meetings the interlocutors touched upon the issues concerning the reforms being implemented in different spheres after the Velvet revolution and the parliamentary elections held in Armenia in December 2018.

The RA NA delegation presented the procedure of the judiciary reforms being implemented in the country, including the steps aimed at legislative reforms in the fight against corruption in the country and the investment of the relevant structural orders. During all meetings, the Armenian side provided thorough information about Armenia's approaches on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem.

They referred to the issues on strengthening of Armenia-EU cooperation and the effective use of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

The Members of the European Parliament highly assessed the reforms being implemented in Armenia and expressed readiness for promoting the development and deepening of cooperation with Armenia, as well as in the frameworks of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership.

Within the framework the delegation also met with the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belgium Van Hoff, A wide scope of the issues existing on the agenda of bilateral cooperation was discussed and the necessity of strengthening of cooperation on the parliamentary platforms was mutually stressed. The Armenian side greatly highlighted the position of principle of the legislative and executive bodies of Belgium on the recognition and condemnation of genocides and the Armenian Genocide.
