On September 8 in New York NA President Artur Baghdasaryan participated at the World Summit of the Parliament presidents. During the plenary session problems related to the century challenges were touched upon: fighting against poverty, corruption and terrorism, etc. The role of the parliament was highlighted in specific way in all speeches in the solution of these problems. Giving a speech on the topic “The Role of the Parliaments in the Development of Democracy,” RA NA President Artur Baghdasaryan highlighted the role of the parliament in the development of democracy, talking with a motto “Strong Parliament, Strong Democracy.” Artur Baghdasaryan also had bilateral meetings. He discussed Armenian-Russian relations were discussed with Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of RF State Duma, as well as also issues related to CIS reforms. NA President discussed the problems of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as the issues of bilateral cooperation in international structures with Pier Ferdinando Casini. Problems related to upcoming official visits to the Republic of Armenia Anne-Marie Lizin, Chairwoman of Belgian Senate, Pavol Hrusovsky, Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, Nino Burjanadze, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, at the invitation of Artur Baghdasaryan were discussed. NA President Artur Baghdasaryan also met Arturas Paulauskas, Chairman of the Lithuanian Parliament, Vladimir Konoplyov, Chairman of the House of Representatives, Omurbek Tekebayev, President of the House of Representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Reuven Rivlin, Speaker of the Israeli Knesset and discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation.
