Debate of Draft Law Condemning Policy of Azerbaijan

On March 1, the NA Draft Statement on Condemning the Policy of Azerbaijan on Impeding the Repatriation of Prisoners of War and Captive Civil Persons, including the women being under the Control of Azerbaijan authored by the NA deputies Taguhi Tovmasyan, Anna Grigoryan and Vardan Atabekyan was debated in the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.

Taking into consideration the sensibility of the item, the proposal made by the Committee Chair Ruben Rubinyan to hold the debate in the closed procedure was accepted.

Let us note that by the authors’ assessment, about three months have passed from the address adopted by the RA NA on 8 December 2020, however Azerbaijan has not returned the captive military and the civilian persons, including the women being under its control.

The goal of the draft statement authors is to condemn the behavior of Azerbaijan by the structure having number one mandate of the parliamentary country. Its aim is also to promote calling into life the humanitarian process of repatriation of all prisoners of war and the civilian persons, including the women through the joint pressure with the international structures, international community and law enforcement organizations.

The co-author of the draft law Taguhi Tovmasyan informed that they had accepted the proposals made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented revised version, which the Committee endorsed.
