Armenia Continues Active Involvement in EEU Works

On March 22, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Armen Ghevondyan presented the results of the implementation of the Government programme, 2020, in the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on the issues of the Regional and Eurasian Integration. “The year 2021 was unprecedentedly difficult for Armenia, Artsakh and the Armenian people. At the beginning of the year, in the conditions of the spread of pandemic and the global economic fall the Ministry had initiated to ensure the continuity of the work on the implementation of the RA Foreign Policy guidelines and the implementation of the Government programme, the fulfilment of the recommendation of the Government and the Prime Minister, the further promotion of the development agenda, deepening and strengthening of the level for the cooperation with the international partners and the structure,” Armen Ghevondyan said.

Due to the pandemic, the Ministry has undertaken operative work on supporting compatriots abroad and organizing their safe repatriation.

According to the rapporteur, the peaceful settlement of the problem of Nagorno Karabakh is still continuing to be the most important priority in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is also among the priorities. Armen Ghevondyan noted that a new situation was created in the South Caucasus Region as a consequence of the 44-day large-scale military aggression against the Republic of Artsakh unleashed by Azerbaijan. The former security environment was disrupted. New problems emerged in the multilateral relations, the necessity of building security architecture in consonance with the requirements of time for facing the modern challenges and threats and forecasting and preventing the possible new developments.

Touching upon the Armenian-Russian relations, the Deputy Minister noted that the RF assumed a key role from the viewpoint of the preservation of the regional ceasefire, security provision and the humanitarian modern issues. During the official year the efforts aimed at the provision and further expansion of the allied relations and strategic partnership continued with the RF in all directions. Platforms, close cooperation in different spheres, including the military-political, economic, energy and other spheres. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked and works in strengthening of bilateral relations,” Armen Ghevondyan said.

Armenia continued the active involvement in the EEU works, during which issues on elimination of the obstacles existing in the frameworks of the market function, the directions of the integration development, the digitalized transport corridors, customs-tariff regulations and the formation of the gas, oil and oil product general market concerning the technical regulation on the EEU territory.

Despite the tendencies of world economy fall, Armenia managed to have 0.6% fall within 10 years.

Active and effective works have been done with the Republic of Belarus. In the last two years the volume of the Armenian-Belarusian trade turnover has sufficiently grown. The share of export from Armenia also increased. Similar positive dynamics was also recorded in the context of Armenian-Kazakh trade-economic relations.

Summing up and assessing the works of the structure, the Deputy Minister noted that in the created situation everything possible had been done for having a good result.
