War is Over, the Conflict – Not: The Issue of Status Shall Be Recorded on the Basis of the Right of Artsakh People’s Self-Determination
1 / 5

At March 29 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, after presenting the report on the procedure and results of the Government programme implementation for 2020 the Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian answered to the deputies’ questions.

The deputy of the NA My Step Faction Tatevik Hayrapetyan was interested in the Minister’s opinion: “The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev speaks about peace, but threatens in the direction of Syunik and delays the issue of the captives’ return. Do you see any opportunity on working in security by the Azerbaijani side? Besides that, is a meeting expected with your Azerbaijani colleague in the near future?

Ara Aivazian has noted that the statements of Azerbaijan are contradictory: “On one hand, Azerbaijan wants to create an impression for the international community that the conflict is over, they are ready for peace, on the other hand, the words and actions prove the opposite. Aliyev makes ear caressing statements for some auditoriums, because it has far-going goals. The war is over, but the conflict – not, and the international organizations also testify to that. To really form an atmosphere of security and peace in the region, we shall record the issue of Artsakh status on the basis of the right of Artsakh people’s self-determination. To reach that a long and hard process is expected. We shall restore the atmosphere of trust. We shall find immediate solution of the problem for the return of the civil persons, and it will be a positive step by the neighbouring country. Regarding the meeting, at this moment it is not scheduled. I don’t exclude that the Co-Chairs’ visit to the region will take place.”
