Citizens Not Finished Their Study with Secondary Professional Education Programme to be Given Deferment: Bill Debated in Second Reading

At April 9 sitting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, the draft law on Making Addendum to the RA Law on Military Service and the Serviceman’s Status authored by the NA Bright Armenia Faction was debated in the second reading.

The key rapporteur Anna Kostanyan noted that the Government presented proposals of technical character on the bill, which were accepted.

According to the proposed addendum to the abovementioned law, by the day of the given deferment term end the citizen not finished the study with the secondary professional educational programme, studying in the graduation year and subject to the conscription of compulsory military service, by the decision of the RA Government deferment is given once including the day of the end of the study, but not more, than the day of his 20th anniversary.

Highlighting the proposal of the presented amendment, the co-rapporteur Kristine Poghosyan has noted she thinks that the deferment shall be returned, in order to have soldiers with higher education in the army: “Even in the case, when it is considered risky, we shall take that step.”

The draft law was endorsed.
