On May 4, the debate of the draft law the RA Criminal Code, the package of the draft laws on Amending the RA Criminal Code and on Making Amendments and Addenda to the RA Criminal Procedure Code authored by the Government in the second reading was on the agenda of the convened NA regular sittings.
The key rapporteur, the Deputy Minister of Justice Armen Hovhannisyan noted that relating to the issue there were a number of meetings, debates, as a result of which the package had been revised and updated. The principles existing in the Code and the conditions of their realization were specified, changes had been made in the crime classification. It is expected that by the designing proceedings the simplification of the judicial form will promote the rise of the efficiency of the bodies fulfilling the court and criminal persecution, as well as quicker and more operative responding to the crimes, effective examining and solving the cases in the maximum savings conditions.
Armen Hovahannisyan informed that the transitional provisions set that the Criminal Code would come into force from July 2022.
Sergey Atomyan presented the endorsement of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs in his co-report. It was noted that the existing Criminal Code came into force in 2003, and problems of time arose.
