The total area of the National Assembly is 6.7 hectares, more than half of it – 4 hectares, is occupied by the Parliament Park, and 10 gardeners take special care of it. There is no division of labour, everyone is equal, everyone knows everything about each tree and plant.

In the central part, near the fountain is a weeping willow.  Grandpa Vazgen who had worked in the park since 1975 said that when he was hired all the trees were young, and then they grew up with him. The fountain had been installed in recent years, on the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 

The purple Judas tree which is registered in the Red Book of Armenia has its special place among the tree species. Despite the unusual name and the dramatic history of the tree, it has extraordinary beauty. The Judas tree blooms in late March, heralding the awakening of nature.

There are tall sequoias and silk acacias in the NA park, the smell of which is everywhere. At the end of the alley are the sakuras which symbolize Japan. They were born in the land of rising sun then, passing thousands of kilometers, reached Armenia, got used to the Armenian climate and took roots in the Armenian soil.

The employees of the Japanese Embassy, by the way, visit the sakuras every year on Cherry Blossom Day and take care of them: enviable care for national values. Although the Japanese trees do not feel particularly alone anymore, they have got acquainted with the birches of Russian origin, and then a warm Russian-Japanese friendship have begun on the Armenian soil.

70 years old huge poplars follow their friendship, the oldest trees of the park which consider themselves the founder and the owner of the NA park. In winter, when the trees are not attractive, the firs which are green all year round, decorated with snowflakes, ensure the beauty of the park. Some of them are so tall that they compete with the owners of the park.

The Head of Landscaping works Vahan Babalaryan says that it is important to prune trees and whitewash tree trunks on time, which is done not only to protect them from pests, but also from sunburn.

There are also fruit trees in the park of the National Assembly. Apricots, apples, pears and walnuts. The gardeners gather the harvest and serve them to the guests of the park. The squirrels living freely in the park eat walnuts without waiting for any invitation. Even the other inhabitants of the park – cats, cannot frighten them.

Years ago, there have been grape seedlings in the parliament park too, under which, as the workers tell, there have been chairs where they have often gathered to discuss the good and bad sides of the day.

The appearance of one of the most beautiful parks in Yerevan is completed by the tropical plants which, after being carefully kept in the greenhouse all winter, return to their positions in spring. The gardener Sima Abgaryan, taking care of subtropical plants, says that now it is the right time to move them from the greenhouse to the park. Then, cleaning the agave leaves, she has emphasized that the flowers need special care.

Despite its decade-long history and deep roots, the park will be always changed and will be greener. It is in a constant process. The newly planted trees take roots very quickly, becoming part of the big family.
