RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan Meets with NA Speaker of Serbia Ivica Dačić in Vienna

On September 8, within the framework of the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments held in Vienna, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić.

According to the Head of the RA legislative body, Armenia attaches great importance to the inter-parliamentary cooperation with Serbia. He has assured that after the re-formation of the NA Armenia-Serbia Friendship Group of the eighth convocation, the cooperation and active contacts will continue, contributing to the dynamic development of the bilateral relations. The mutual visits were highlighted in the activation of the inter-state and inter-parliamentary cooperation. Alen Simonyan has noted that he welcomes the decision to open the Embassy of Serbia in Armenia, which will be a new impetus for the development of the Armenian-Serbian relations and the further cooperation. The ideas were exchanged related to the cooperation in the frameworks of the international structures.

The sides touched upon the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in detail. The RA NA Speaker presented the information on the works of the release of Armenian prisoners of war being kept in Azerbaijan.

The NA Speaker of Serbia Ivica Dačić reaffirmed the readiness of his country, to deepen the cooperation with fraternal Armenia in all spheres, including through strengthening the partnership ties between parliaments. He has emphasized that the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict has no alternative.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the RA legislative body reaffirmed the invitation addressed to the Speaker of Parliament of Serbia Ivica Dačić to pay an official visit to the Republic of Armenia.
