It is Envisaged to Appoint Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs on Voluntary Basis

At the NA regular sitting convened on November 16, the deputies debated in the first reading the draft law on Amending the Law on Public Service submitted by the Government.

As the Higher Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the RA Prime Minister’s Staff Zareh Sinanyan has informed, that the necessity to pass the draft law is conditioned by the requirement of the Relations with the Diaspora section of the Government’s programme.

The purpose of creating an Institute of the Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs is to develop the Armenia-Diaspora cooperation, to increase the efficiency of the work carried out in that sphere. Zareh Sinanyan has clarified that the Commissioners will be appointed as advisors in the communities on a voluntary basis. They will not be paid, will not have a normalized work and working time regime. Professional advice will be provided to support the Armenia-Diaspora cooperation.

The NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs endorsed the draft law.

As a result of voting, the draft law was passed in the first reading. The debate of the draft law in the second reading will be after passing it in the first reading during 24-hour.
