1 / 3

At December 10 sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, the legislative package on Making Addenda to the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on Making Addenda and Amendment to the Law on Assessment of Person’s Functionality was debated in the second reading.

The RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan noted that after the first reading, amendments of a technical nature were made. The proposed amendments will give opportunity to carry out the disability assessment process with existing mechanisms and standards before the introduction of the new system to assess a person’s functionality. In parallel with it, appropriate works will be done for effectively introducing the assessment system of a person’s functionality. The united social service will provide medical and social services, and the provision of supportive means will become more targeted.

The deputies Tadevos Avetisyan and Yelena Kirakosyan highlighted the full implementation of the proposed regulations within the set period of time. The Committee Chair Heriknaz Tigranyan noted that reasonable term has been given for the terms, and the new order will go into effect in 2023.

According to the Deputy Minster, the amendments will give about 200.000 citizens with disabilities opportunity to exercise their rights.

The Committee endorsed the legislative package.
