Eduard Aghajanyan Meets with Media Representatives
1 / 8

On January 27, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan met with media representatives to refer to their questions. The Committee Chair spoke about the items of an internal and external political agenda.

They also touched upon the issue of the package of proposals made by the Armenian side to Russia and then to Azerbaijan.

“Those proposals which have been presented to our colleagues are not preconditions at all. We have repeatedly noted that in order for the demarcation and delimitation process to be possible in practice, it is necessary to ensure minimum security conditions,” Eduard Aghajanyan expressed an opinion. According to him, the RA proposal was aimed at ensuring the mentioned guarantees.

The reporter of Channel 5 TV company has asked a supplementary question, noting that Baku rejects the package of proposals, which is based on the demand for the mirror withdrawal of troops. “Can we assume that the demand for the mirror withdrawal is no longer discussed by both sides as a proposal?” the reporter was interested.

As Eduard Aghajanyan has assessed, such an assumption and conclusion cannot be made, the Republic of Armenia does not reject this proposal in any case, and the best option as a first step or precondition to start such process is the mirror withdrawal.

They referred to the foreign policy of Armenia and the Armenian-Russian relations.

“The Republic of Armenia conditions its foreign policy, the directions of it and balancing first of all and only with the RA interests. The Russian Federation is the strategic partner of the RA,” Eduard Aghajanyan has said and added that in particular, after the 44-day war, Russia has its key importance in the issue of the RA security architecture.

In response to the question from the journalist of Aravot daily newspaper, which was on the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Eduard Aghajanyan stated that during the history of newly independent Armenia, all the RA powers were in favor of normalization of the relations with Turkey without preconditions.

The journalist has also inquired about the information provided by the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the online press conference, according to which, Armenia is ready for the negotiations to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

Eduard Aghajanyan has emphasized that the Republic of Armenia has always stated its positive attitude towards the advancement of the peace agenda in the region, the ultimate goal of which is the peace treaty. According to him, as a result of long and comprehensive discussion, it should be issued and available to the communities of Armenia and Azerbaijan with a mutually acceptable logic.
