National Security Service Carries Out Work in a Number of Spheres During 2021

At March 15 regular sitting, the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security debated the Report on Implementation Process and Results of the RA Government Programme for 2021 (2021-2026) approved by the N 234-A Decision of the RA Government on February 28, 2022.

The RA Deputy Director of the National Security Service (NSS) Tigran Harutyunyan noted that work was done in the fields of defense and border security and the fight against corruption.

He informed that in order to strengthen the protection of the south-eastern border of the country, the construction of the border checkpoints of the Armenian border guard troops has started in 8 villages of Syunik marz. 50% of work has been carried out in the first phase. It is planned to end work in 2022.

During 2021, pre-military training for military servicemen was organized and carried out in the border guard troops, training and retraining programs of servicemen of all border guard troops were reviewed. The number of the border guard troops has been increased, staff changes have been made, temporary border units have been deployed, border roads used for the movement of the infrastructures, units have been repaired.

According to Tigran Harutyunyan, within the framework of ensuring the security of information infrastructures, new software and technical means to ensure network security were introduced in the National Security Service. In particular, the equipment acquired by the Government and provided to the National Security Service made it possible to ensure high internet speed and to use modern means of cyber security of the state bodies.

As the NSS Deputy Director informed, the special unit is technically composed of equipment for network security, which provides internet antivirus protection and neutralization functions of cyber-attacks of the state bodies in real time.

Large-scale work has been carried out in the fight against corruption. During the previous year, there were crimes against corruption and economic activity in 200 out of 553 cases investigated by the NSS Investigation Department.
