Issue of Ratification of European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road Debated

At March 16 sitting, chaired by Vahe Hakobyan, the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs debated the draft law on the Ratification of the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road presented by the Government.

The European Agreement was signed on September 30, 1957 and entered into force on July 29, 1968.

The RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan noted that the aim of the Agreement is to increase the level of safety of international carriage of dangerous goods by road - establishing systems for the classification and labeling of dangerous goods, harmonizing the requirements for packaging, labeling and carriage of those goods, preventing harm to human life and health, as well as the environment during the carriage of dangerous goods. The Agreement sets out requirements on the structure and operation of vehicles carrying dangerous goods.

It was also noted that the ratification of the Agreement will give an opportunity to regulate the process of carrying dangerous goods in the RA territory by law, to establish legislative regulations on carriage in accordance with the requirements of the agreement, to control the process of carrying dangerous goods in the territory of the republic, to ensure inter-state cooperation.

The draft law was endorsed.
