On March 18, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Eduard Aghajanyan received the UN Permanent Coordinator (RC) to the Republic of Armenia Lila Pieters Yahia.

Eduard Aghajanyan congratulated the guest on being elected. The Committee Chair highlighted and highly appreciated the activity of the UN Office to Armenia in many spheres. The sides talked about the joint programmes, particularly aimed at implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Armenia. The humanitarian support programmes of the organization were also discussed.

Eduard Aghajanyan denounced the participation of the UN representatives in the event to be held in Shushi dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership to the UN. The Committee has added that the event to be organized in a settlement being one of the main targets of Azerbaijan's aggression and Armenophobia, contradicts the mission of the activities of the organization, taking into consideration the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, and because of that the Armenians have completely been evicted from Shushi.

Lila Pieters Yahia emphasized the continuity of bilateral effective cooperation. She has noted that the UN Office in Armenia is ready to support the effective implementation of the ongoing reforms in the country. The importance of cooperation between the UN and the National Assembly was touched upon. In this context the effectiveness of the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia (MAP) Project directed to the development of the RA National Assembly capabilities. The parties expressed willingness to support the implementation of similar projects within the framework of their powers.
