Issues on the EAEU cooperation discussed during the meeting held on April 4 of the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration Armen Gevorgyan and the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Armenia Bolat Imanbayev.

According to Armen Gevorgyan, in terms of the EAEU cooperation now it is a difficult period related to the Russian-Ukrainian events and the sanctions being imposed towards Russia because of that. “As the economy of the EAEU countries is interconnected, then we cannot but feel the consequences of those sanctions. From the beginning we were very concerned that that situation would have an impact on the food security of our country, as the wheat is mainly imported from Russia,” the Committee Chair said. To him, different discussions show that as if favourable solutions are found, taking into consideration the interests of the EAEU countries – to mitigate the impacts of those sanctions.

The interlocutors highlighted the combining of efforts for solving the problems within the framework of the EAEU.

It has been noted that the relations of the two countries are dynamically developing, though there is a potential to expand and deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in different fields.

The interlocutors also discussed issues on the inter-parliamentary ties, regional problems and challenges.

The Committee Chair has conveyed to the Ambassador the anxiety connected with some assessments in the Declaration of Istanbul, which relate to the Armenian-Azerbaijani non-regulated issues. Armen Gevorgyan has noted that there are not only congratulations in it connected with ‘the victory,’ but also starting point moments, so called Zangezur corridor.

Armen Gevorgyan has also underlined the concern of the Armenia Faction, noting that unless the problem is not resolved, it is important that the CSTO member colleagues will keep at least constructive neutrality.

Within the framework of the economic cooperation it was noted that the trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan increased by 26% on the previous year. In this context the settlement of the logistic problems in the alternative ways also was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting the Ambassador Imanbayev referred to the expecting reforms and constitutional amendments in Kazakhstan, attached importance to the experience of Armenia in that context. Armen Gevorgyan has underscored that it is important that the society will not get divided into different, opposing sides as a result of the reforms being implemented in the country.
