Pursuant to the regulations established by the Law on Prosecutor General’s Office, the information for making a list of candidacies for prosecutors, as well as for announcing a competition in case of a vacancy for the Deputy Prosecutor General, is also published, among others, in the press with a circulation of 3000.

However, according to the Deputy Minister of Justice Arpine Sargsyan, there is no press with a circulation of 3000 in the Republic of Armenia at the moment, so it is objectively impossible to comply with the mentioned legislative requirement. “In addition, in the conditions of technical development and the improvement of electronic systems and platforms in the state administration system, the need to publish the announcement on competitions in the press disappears, as the intended goal can be achieved through other and quite effective means,” she said.

So, the Government proposes to make an amendment to the above-mentioned law and to publish the information for making a list of candidacies, as well as for announcing a competition in case of a vacancy for the Prosecutor General Deputy on the official internet website of the RA Public Notifications and the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The draft law was debated at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs on April 21 and endorsed.

The Committee postponed the debates of the two initiatives presented on the agenda, which were authored by the NA opposition factions, because of the absence of the authors.
