An Opportunity to Be Given to Cooperate in the Sphere of Satellite Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services Related to Them by Ratification of Agreement

The Agreement on the implementation of joint activities by the countries participating in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in the field of space exploration and use for peaceful purposes was signed on November 2, 2018: the RA Deputy Minister of Hi-Tech Avet Poghosyan said at July 6 NA extraordinary sitting.

According to him, the aim of the agreement is to define the legal and organizational bases of multilateral cooperation in the sphere of space exploration and use for peaceful purposes, as well as to support the creation of a legal framework for the development of agreements and other arrangements in certain areas of joint space activities, for signing between the sides and the participants of joint activities.

Avet Posghosyan noted that the Agreement entered into force on September 20, 2019, and at present

the Republics of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation ratified it. He underlined that only Armenia had not ratified it so far.

Within the framework of this Agreement an opportunity will be given to cooperate in the sphere of satellite navigation systems, technologies and services related to them. It will also give an opportunity to utilize the results of the space activities in different spheres, to protect the space environment, to control the space garbage accumulation, to make studies of natural resources, as well as the monitoring of emergency situations and natural disasters.

The Deputy Minister noted that one of the goals of the Ministry of Hi-Tech Industry is to raise the authority of Armenia in the CIS, by becoming a full-fledge member of the profile committees, councils

and working groups.
