Parliament Adopts Statement on the Armed Attack of Azerbaijan

At September 13 sitting, the RA National Assembly discussed and adopted the NA Draft Statement “The Statement of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on the Armed Attack of Azerbaijan” authored by the NA President Alen Simonyan, the NA Vice President Ruben Rubinyan and the deputy Vladimir Vardanyan.

The NA President Alen Simonyan informed the parliament that, in accordance with Article 98 of the constitutional law NA Rules of Procedure, he presented the NA Draft Statement on the Armed Attack of Azerbaijan.

The Chair of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, the co-author of the NA Statement Vladimir Vardanyan presented the NA Draft Statement.

The deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Arpine Davoyan inquired of the proposals of the NA opposition factions were included in the NA Statement.

In response to that, Vladimir Vardanyan informed that beginning from 09:40 the Civil Contract Faction worked with the NA With Honor and Armenia Factions, who presented packages of certain proposals.

The proposals of the Armenia Faction directly did not refer to the aggressive actions unleashed yesterday. Part of the proposals of With Honor Faction referred to the situation created on some part, and we were ready to partially take into consideration those proposals in the mentioned Statement. I would like to distinctly note that it was important for us to have unity between the parliamentary factions in the hall today. Unfortunately, it failed,” Vladimir Vardanyan said.

The deputy informed that part of the opposition colleagues’ proposals was inadmissible, that is why their proposals were not included in NA Statement.

Presenting the viewpoint of the NA Armenia Faction, Artsvik Minasyan noted that they are not against the Statement, but in their opinion, it is not complete and does not contain any solution. “If we were not intended on the defense of our statehood, we would not say these most important provisions,” he noted and informed that in this situation the Armenia Faction will not take part in voting.

On behalf of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction the RA NA President Alen Simonyan delivered a speech.

As a result of the discussions, with 65 votes for the parliament adopted the Statement.

The National Assembly will continue the work of the regular sitting on September 14, at 10:00.
