Candidates for Chairman and Members of CEC Proposed at Extraordinary Sitting of Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs

The RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, chaired by Vladimir Vardanyan, debated with the special procedure the issues of proposing candidates to the National Assembly for the positions of the Chairman and other members of the Central Electoral Commission at the extraordinary sitting on October 7.

The NA Civil Contract Faction nominated Vahagn Hovakimyan for the position of the Chairman of the CEC. The Committee Chair, presenting the candidate’s biographical data, stated about his professional qualities, as well as referred to the parliamentary activity and emphasized the great contribution of the candidate to the reforms of the electoral legislation.

Vahagn Hovakimyan, thanking the Civil Contract Faction for nominating his candidacy, noted that he will invest his professional experience in the reform of the electoral system and the development of democracy in our country.

The Committee members also debated the issue of proposing candidates to the National Assembly for the positions of other members of the Central Electoral Commission with the special procedure.

The Committee member Lilit Minasyan presented Anna Grigoryan’s biography, a candidate for the CEC member, emphasizing the candidate’s responsibility for work and management skills.

Anna Grigoryan, a candidate for the CEC member, expressing her gratitude to the Civil Contract Faction for nominating her candidacy, highly appreciated the role of the Central Electoral Commission in the establishment and development of democracy.

The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Armen Khachatryan presented Zhirayr Karapetyan’s biography, a candidate for the CEC member. The deputy stressed the candidate’s professional qualities, noted that the latter was a participant in the 44-day war.

Zhirayr Karapetyan, highlighting the increase in the legal security, assured that he will perform all his duties as a lawyer.

Arpine Davoyan, a member of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, presented the biographical data of the next nominated candidate, Nune Hovhannisyan. The deputy emphasized the candidate’s professional skills related to the electoral processes.

Nune Hovhannisyan, who was nominated as a candidate for the CEC member, noted that democracy is the cornerstone of development of our country.

Silva Markosyan is the next candidate nominated for the position of the CEC member.

The Committee Chair Alkhas Ghazaryan presented the candidate’s biography and stressed her professional qualities.

Silva Markosyan emphasized the importance of increasing people’s trust in the elections. According to the candidate, the electoral legislation has improved in recent years.

The Committee Chair Vigen Khachatryan presented the biography of the next candidate nominated for the position of the CEC member, Arusyak Terchanyan and stressed the candidate’s professional skills.
Arusyak Terchanyan considered the reforms of the electoral system important.

Presenting Armen Smbatyan’s biography, a candidate for the CEC member, the Committee Chair Trdat Sargsyan emphasized his work experience and skills in the Central Electoral Commission.

The candidate assured that he will invest his experience in the development of democracy in Armenia.

During the exchange of ideas, the NA deputy Armen Khachatryan noted that the basis of democracy is fair, and transparent elections and democracy is the only brand with which our country presents itself to the world.

The RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs voted to approve the issue of presenting the candidates nominated for the positions of the Chairman and members of the CEC by the Civil Contract Faction to the NA for debate.
