Electronic Cigarettes to Be Subject to Excise Tax Too

According to the RA Deputy Minister of Finance Arman Poghosyan, with the adoption of the legislative initiative, the approaches to taxation of various types of products considered to be tobacco products with an excise tax will be reviewed.

With the amendments to the Tax Code, the Government proposes to impose an excise tax on electronic cigarettes.

The Government will have the authority to define the procedure for the application of tax benefits provided by the international agreements ratified by the Republic of Armenia.

The Deputy Minister noted that according to the expert, the use of electronic cigarettes is also harmful to health.

The purpose of the amendment to the Law of the Republic of Armenia On approving the list of products imported by organizations and individual entrepreneurs not subject to an excise tax, whose import is exempt from value added tax is the regulation of the issues related to the application of the VAT exemption during the import of some products.

The co-rapporteur, a member of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Tsovinar Vardanyan, highlighting the adoption of the legislative package, noted that it was revised, taking into account the legislative experience of a number of countries.

The package of drafts was debated in the first reading at the NA regular sitting on October 25.
