Newly Appointed Ambassador of Portugal Hosted in Parliament: Armenia is Our Friendly Country, and We Are Concerned About Issue of Its Territorial Integrity

We evaluate the Armenian-Portuguese relations, and I think that your visit will promote the further development of bilateral cooperation. On February 9, the member of the NA Armenia-Portugal Friendship Group Vladimir Vardanyan said about this on behalf of the Group during the meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Portugal to our country Madalena Fischer.

The members of the NA Armenia-Portugal Friendship Group Emma Palyan and Arusyak Julhakyan also took part in the meeting.

The sides discussed the perspectives of development of the Armenian-Portuguese relations. The necessity of close cooperation between the parliaments, particularly the Friendship Groups was especially underlined.

The Armenian parliamentarians expressed readiness to support the initiatives aimed at deepening the bilateral collaboration, especially taking into consideration the circumstance that there is unrealized potential in a number of spheres.

The interlocutors touched upon the mutually beneficial and effective cooperation in the international organizations. The importance of the deployment of the Civil Observation Mission of the European Union in Armenia was underlined.

The members of the Friendship Group also voiced the problems relating to the humanitarian crisis created in Artsakh and security because of blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan. The NA deputies highlighted the international colleagues’ reaction, actions in the settlement of the created situation.

“Armenia is our friendly country, and we are concerned about the issue of its territorial integrity,” the Ambassador noted and emphasized the stability and security in the region.

At the meeting a reference was made to the implementation of the reforms in our country. The guest expressed readiness to present their experience in the implementation of democratic reforms, especially taking into account the fact that Portugal also went through the path of revolution.
