1 / 11

During the post-war period we need very much diplomats and politicians. There is necessity of presenting Armenia and Artsakh in a new way. I am glad that you have chosen those professions. On February 15, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs said about this, meeting with the students of the RA National Academy of Sciences, Yerevan State University and the RA Public Administration Academy.

Taguhi Tovmasyan spoke about the importance of the parliamentary control toolset, touched upon the legislative work. According to the Committee Chair, not presenting many initiatives by the opposition MPs is conditioned by their refusal of the parliamentary majority. In this context the MP reminded that the draft designing amendments to the law on Military Service and Serviceperson’s Status authored by her.

Touching upon the work of the Committee led by her, Taguhi Tovmasyan noted that as opposition and non-partisan, she performs her functions as Committee Chair and does not express the opinion of the Committee members. The MP documented that in the situation of the post-war period her main work is directed to the international relations and the connection with the outside world: “During one year, I have sent more than 700 letters to different international instances, voicing about the violations of the most different rights of the residents of the border settlements of Armenia and Artsakh.”

Taguhi Tovmasyan answered the students’ questions, which referred to the regional security, the contacts with the outside world, the security enhancement of the borders and the frontline furnishing, the blockade of the Lachin Corridor. “All of us should always alarm in our places to the international structures,” the Committee Chair expressed such opinion and added that it would promote to their quick and targeted response.
