Alen Simonyan to Newly Appointed Ambassador of Latvia: Advancement of Peace Agenda is to Be RA Principle and Strategy

On February 15, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Armenia Edite Medne. Congratulating on assuming the Office of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Extraordinary, the RA NA President noted that Latvia is an important partner in Europe for our country.

At the meeting the format of the inter-parliamentary cooperation was singled out, highlighting the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between parliaments of Armenia and Latvia.

Alen Simonyan underlined the role of the Friendship Groups functioning in parliaments of the two countries, expressing hope that the Parliament of Latvia will appoint a new Head of Group of boosting collaboration with RA Parliament.

Speaking about challenges of Armenia and Artsakh, a reference was made to the rights of 120.000 Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh being under blockade for more than two months.

“The security situation in the region continues remaining tense, From May 12, 2021 the Azerbaijani Armed Forces three times violated the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and illegally invaded the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia,” the RA NA President underscored.

He added that despite all challenges, the advancement of peace agenda is to be principle and strategy of the Republic of Armenia.

The RA NA President reminded that a call is regularly made to all international counterparts to distinctly touch upon the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan for the benefit of peace and stability of the region.
