On February 27, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the Deputy Chair of the Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Djuna Bernard.

The RA NA President noted that in Europe Luxembourg is an important, reliable and friendly partner for Armenia, and the further deepening of political dialogue for the two countries is greatly important. Alen Simonyan noticed that the previous week was a week of Luxembourg in Armenia: on February 23, the NA President has an important talk with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn.

“We are glad that 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations for marking the unprecedented deepening of bilateral cooperation in recent years, Luxembourg accredits an Ambassador (non-resident) in Armenia. In this respect we think that the next logical step will be the opening of Consulate General of Luxembourg in Armenia, which will also cover Georgia and Iran. I will inform that the Governments of Armenia discusses the issue of opening Consulate in Luxembourg,” the NA President noted.

In strengthening bilateral and multi-lateral relations both sides underscored the activeness of Friendship Groups. The RA NA President expressed gratitude to the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Luxembourg for the resolutions adopted by the Chamber of Deputies during 44-day war of 2020 and after it.

At the meeting the challenges regarding the people of the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, particularly noting the problems on situation created because of the Lachin Corridor crisis.

In this context the decision made by the UN International Court of Justice last week was mentioned, which creates legal basis for the international players’ practical steps, forcing Azerbaijan to open the route of life.

Ideas were exchanged over the priority of withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, emphasizing the deployment of the EU long-term Observation Mission on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Let us remind that the representative of Luxembourg is also included in the Mission.

At the end of the meeting the RA NA President underlined that our country continues remaining faithful to the agenda of reaching peace and in that issue expects the support of international partners, including Luxembourg.
