1 / 7

Currently, around 53 certified producers are actively involved in the sphere of organic agriculture in Armenia, but the potential for the development of organic agriculture and increasing the volume of products is quite large. The aim of the presented legislative drafts is to create the most favorable conditions for the expansion of farms engaged in organic agriculture and the growth of production volumes. This was stated by the RA Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan, presenting the legislative package on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Law on Organic Agriculture and on Making Addendum and Amendment to the RA Code on Administrative Offenses at April 5 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Protection in the first reading.

As a result of the proposed legislative amendment, the certification of organic agricultural products consumed in the local market will be carried out through organizations with assessment of compliance by the National Accreditation Body. The Food Safety Inspection Body is authorized to carry out control over the labeling, storage, transportation, sale requirements of organic agricultural products, which is not done today.

Administrative fines are defined in cases of violating the conditions of labeling, storage, transportation, and sale of organic agricultural products.

The legislative package was endorsed by the Committee.
