Delegation of Seimas of Lithuania Hosted at Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs

On April 5, within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania to Armenia, the delegation members were hosted at the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs.

Let us note that last year the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs with the support of the International Republican Institute was on a working visit in Lithuania, aiming at studying the Lithuanian experience in the sphere of social security and right to labor.

The Committee members led by Heriknaz Tigranyan welcomed the guests in parliament, discussed the results of the meetings of delegation held in Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, in the trade unions and Labor Inspection during the last two days.

The Committee Chair Heriknaz Tigranyan presented to the guests the amendments to the Labor Code adopted by the National Assembly recently.

The guests voiced their succeeded experience of ensuring the employees’ rights and equal opportunities of the society by the Labor Code and expressed readiness to support in revising qualified legislation to their Armenian colleagues.

The parliamentarians noted that besides social problems, legal equality the security and independence of the countries is important. In this context the Committee members spoke up about the situation in Artsakh. “Any legislative amendment, social programme, any efforts directed to welfare of the population will be in vain, if the security of the country is not ensured,” Heriknaz Tigranyan noted, expecting the support of all democratic countries for strengthening the security system of Armenia and advancing the peace agenda.

The sides highlighted similar meetings, underscoring that they promote to improve the legislation of the sphere.

The visit of the delegation was organized with the support of the International Republican Institute.
