Nikol Pashinyan: We have a program of developing the nuclear capabilities of Armenia

During the National Assembly-Government Q&A session, the deputy of the NA Civil Contract Faction Vahagn Aleksanyan inquired about building small module nuclear reactors in Armenia and in other states of Eurasia by the USA, about which the Coordinator of the U.S. Department of State's Office of the Coordinator for U.S. Assistance to Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia Maria Longi said today. “I would like to understand at what level is this conversation? What are the terms, about which we can voice now, as it caused very big resonance in the society?” the deputy asked.

The Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed that the RA Government has a program of developing the nuclear capabilities of Armenia. “You also now that our nuclear power plant has a deadline, after which we cannot operate it,” Nikol Pashinyan said and added that now Armenia negotiates with a number of partners on building a new power plant. “We observe which one of those versions is economically more beneficial for us,” he noted.

The Prime Minister informed that in the near future a delegation from the Republic of Armenia will leave for the USA in order to get acquainted with the opportunities of that module type nuclear power plants on the spot in more detail.
