The delegation led by the RA NA President Alen Simonyan held a joint working discussion with France-Armenia Friendship Group, which was led by the Head of France-Armenia Friendship Group Gilbert-Luc Devinaz.

The RA NA President thanked the Head of France-Armenia Friendship Group of the Senate Gilbert-Luc Devinaz for the visit and organization of the meeting.

Addressing the French partners present at the meeting, Alen Simonyan noted that thanks to their collective efforts, the French Senate, with an unprecedented support of votes, adopted the historic resolution on the necessity to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on November 25, 2020.

He also mentioned the influential resolution adopted by an absolute majority regarding the imposition of sanctions against Azerbaijan and the immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the territory of Armenia after the Azerbaijani aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia on September 13, 2022, on November 15 of the same year, and a number of other resolutions and documents.

Alen Simonyan stated that the visit of the delegation led by Gilbert-Luc Devinaz in April of this year to Tegh community was an alarm for the international community and a call for sobriety to Azerbaijan.

The French senators noticed that the ongoing negotiation process is not a deterrent factor for Azerbaijan. In this context, they had a conversation about the possibility of imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan.

The Armenian delegates mentioned that they expect from the European partners to keep the issue of the return of Armenian prisoners of war in the center of attention.

The necessity to establish peace in the region was discussed at the meeting. The Senator Marie-Arlette Carlotti, who was present at the meeting, forwarded her co-authored report on the 44-day war to the RA NA President, pointing out that war was one of the most brutal ever in history, unlike any other military conflict and contains a huge amount of research material.

At the end of the discussion, the Head of France-Armenia Friendship Group noted that France, despite its political diversity, is single-minded and unanimous in supporting friendly Armenia.
