Addenda are proposed to Laws on Military Service and Status of Servicemen and on Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and State Service Positions
1 / 10

Highlighting the social motivation for contract military service, the Government proposes to make addenda to the Laws on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen and on Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and State Service Positions.

Presenting the legislative package in the first reading for debate, the RA Deputy Minister of Defense Karen Brutyan noted that an initiative has been taken to make amendments in the existing system. It is proposed to define a surcharge for servicemen engaged in non-combat functions, involved in security or service functions.

Karen Brutyan informed that currently there are around 600 civilian and 1700 non-combat servicemen in the system.

In the Law on Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and State Service Positions, it is proposed to set remuneration coefficients for the positions of the sergeant of the regiment (brigade) and the sergeant of the battalion (division) of the RA Armed Forces.

The package of draft laws was considered urgent by the Government.

The co-rapporteur Vahagn Aleksanyan noted that the legislative package is acceptable and logical. According to him, the certification is the most important condition and the right decision made for the Armed Forces. This gives an opportunity to an ordinary contract soldier to receive a salary of 500-600 thousand AMD, instead of the previous 120 thousand. According to Vahagn Aleksanyan, this is not only a solution to the social problems, but also an opportunity to increase the level of training of the servicemen. The deputy proposed his colleagues to vote for the legislative package.

The NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security debated the issue at the sitting and endorsed it on February 21.
