Hakob Arshakyan to Ambassador of Austria: Austria, as an EU member state, is a key partner for Armenia

On July 12, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Armenia Thomas Mühlmann (residence: Tbilisi).

The NA Vice President highly appreciated Austria’s support to our country since the establishment of diplomatic relations and noted the Ambassador’s personal commitment and willingness in this matter.

Hakob Arshakyan underscored the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the context of bilateral relations, which is clearly evidenced by the activities of the friendship groups.

The NA Vice President valued the start of the dialogue on visa liberalization, expressing his conviction that Austria will agree to that process. The establishment of a resident diplomatic representation of Austria in Armenia has become important. The Ambassador, in turn, promised to forward the request to the competent bodies.

“Armenia’s commitment to the establishment of peace and stability in our region should be considered not only as a prerequisite for the prosperity of our citizens, but also as part of the collective vision of the European family. It should be aimed at promoting common values ​​ such as democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights,” Hakob Arshakyan said, touching upon the regional stability and security issues. In this context, he mentioned the resolution on the involvement of Austria in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the improvement of the living conditions of the refugee civilian population, especially women and children unanimously adopted by the Austrian National Council on April 17, 2024.

The process of regulating the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, the efforts of the Armenian side in this matter, the expansion of parliamentary relations, the perspectives of the RA-EU partnership, the importance of the EU Observation Mission, the promotion of cooperation in a number of fields and other issues were discussed.
