Biography of Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs

Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan was born on June 6, 1950 in Sevan.

In 1972 he graduated from the Medical faculty of Yerevan State Medical Institute, and in 1984 – the High School of the administrative officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. Doctor, Candidate of medical sciences.

From 1972-1975 he worked in the Sevan regional hospital as a surgeon. From 1975-1977 – as an expert of inter-regional forensic medicine (Aparan-Aragats). In 1976 – head of hospital in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 1994 – administrative director at the Red Cross International Rehabilitation Centre, in 1995 – general director. In 2001 he was elected President of the Armenian Red Cross Company.

Mkhitar Mkhitaryan is an honoured professor of Moscow Academy of European University, honoured professor of European University, academician of International Academy of Spiritual Unity of the World’s People, real member of RF medical-technical academy, member of RF Academy of Natural Sciences, Chairman of the Inter-Governmental Commission for Fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Armenia, USSR champion of Burevestnik society on wrestling, sports master, colonel of internal service.

Composer, author of numerous works.

He was awarded a USSR Excellent of Health diploma, previous USSR and RA decrees and medal, letter of acknowledgement of Red Cross.

On May 12, 2007 he was elected as a deputy of the National Assembly from the Prosperous Armenia Party electoral list.

On December 6, 2007 he was elected Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs.

He is married, has two children.
