On September 22 Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Mr. Hrayr Karapetyan met the representatives of the NGOs regarding the spheres of the activity of the committee, in order to discuss the frameworks of the cooperation between the NGOs and the committee, and the problems of public control of the security agencies.

Mr. Karapetyan highlighted that cooperation from the viewpoint of ensuring national security, disclosure and correction of the shortcomings in the legislative field, consistent use of the laws, as well as public awareness.

The representatives of the NGOs spoke about the necessity of correcting the existing shortcomings through civil control and presented their proposals.

For the implementation of effective cooperation it was decided to organize discussions on concrete issues, inviting also the representatives of the executive body regarding the problem, organize joint visits to different institutions and get familiarized with the problems concerning the people through immediate contacts.

Mr. Karapetyan highlighted the role of specialized and advisory role of the NGOs and expressed conviction that the cooperation of the committee with the NGOs will be very practical, and the steps to be taken consistent.
