Joint Statement of RA NA Factions of the Coalition Parties

2 October 2009
During these days we are witnessing in the Armenian-Turkish relations a process, which was difficult to imagine at least months ago. Last September the initiative of the President of Armenia the process of normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations with quick steps the initiative of the President of Armenia made absolutely realistic the completion of the normalization of the relations between the two countries. The process focused not only on Armenia and Turkey, but also the international community, returning to international political agenda with new intensity causal ties of the existing problems in the Armenian-Turkish relations.

It’s clear that this process does not mean to forget the past, to put in question the reality of the Armenian Genocide. Without ignoring the tragic pages of the historic past the Republic of Armenia today shows courage dictated with the feeling of big responsibility towards the future of the Motherland for normalizing the relations between the two countries.

The Initiated Protocols reflect Armenia’s proposed position of normalizing the relations without preconditions, and their implementation does not only close any door of our national goals and desires, but on the contrary, forms new platforms and mechanisms, creates new opportunities.

The wisdom of our people dictates to show resoluteness without preconditions in establishing relations with Turkey. And we greet this policy, calling on all citizens of Armenia, political, public organizations, as well as Armenians throughout the world to create necessary conditions for successfully completing that process.
