Meeting in the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly

On October 21 Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Mr. Vardan Ayvazyan and Deputy Chairman Mr. Vardan Bostanjyan met the parliamentary delegation led by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of the Netherlands Mr. Henk Jan Ormel.

At the guests’ request Mr. Ayvazyan presented Armenia’s economic situation, the influence of the world financial-economic crisis and blockade on the economic development and volumes of foreign trade of Armenia. According to his assessment, the opening of Armenia-Turkey borders and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the neighbouring country will create an opportunity for gradual development of the economy and increase of the volumes of foreign trade and will be important in the viewpoint of strengthening of the region and economic cooperation with Europe.

Mr. Ormel noticed that the improvement of Armenia-Turkey relations and the opening of the borders will not only be useful for two countries and in the respect of solutions of regional many problems, but also speed up the Euro integration process, as they always considered South Caucasus a component of Europe.

At the meeting other issues regarding the perspectives of regional economic policy and development of bilateral relations were discussed.
