On January 28, Speaker of the National Assembly Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan had a telephone conversation with newly elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu .

At the beginning of the telephone conversation RA NA Speaker congratulated Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on his election as President of the PACE. Taking into account the fact that the Turkish political figure is the first from our region to assume that high-ranking office, Mr. Abrahamyan called on him to show sensible, reasonable and balanced position on issues concerning the region.

During the conversation, Mr. Çavuşoğlu informed the RA NA Speaker Mr. H. Abrahamyan that on January 26, the Azerbaijani APA news agency had ascribed to him a number of statements that he had not made. Mr. Çavuşoğlu assured that the statements were a result of poor translation and the Azerbaijani journalist's misinterpretation.

During the conversation the sides also exchanged views on the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations without preconditions. The interlocutors also discussed the possibility of the newly elected PACE President's visit to Armenia.
