On February 5, an agreement was signed between the Staff of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the South-Korean GS Engineering and Construction Corporation, in the name of the Chief of RA NA Staff Mr. Gegham Gharibjanyan and the Deputy Chairman of the Korean Company Mr. Sung Ki Cho. According to this agreement, the Korean Company expresses willingness to support the development of the capabilities of the National Assembly. The President of the National Assembly Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan, deputies and members of NA Staff attended the signing of the agreement.
After signing the agreement the Chief of RA NA Staff Mr. Gegham Gharibjanyan welcomed those present and in particular said:
“The agreement that was signed today between the Staff of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the South-Korean GS Engineering and Construction Corporation is the result of the agreements reached during the official visit of RA NA President Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan that he made to South Korea in December 2009. The visit of the Head of the Parliament to the Republic of Korea, which was the visit of the first high ranking official of the Republic of Armenia after the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, certainly became a beginning of enhancing the friendly and economic relations. At the beginning of December being impressed by the meeting of the NA President the Korean side, in the name of the Chairman of GS Group Company Mr. Huh Chang Soo expressed willingness to support the programme of the development of the capabilities of the parliament.
Today, we are glad that the GS Group, which is well known in the world, having 49 branches and representations in numerous countries, kept its promise, supported the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia giving away 500.000 USD.
This is a step taken within the framework of the programme directed to the rise of the National Assembly's role promised by the President of the National Assembly Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan.
The staff in its turn will do its best in order to implement those programmes purposefully and productively.”
Mr. Sung Ki Cho also highlighted this agreement in the context of the Armenian-Korean friendship and economic cooperation and added that it was the implementation of the promise of the Chairman of GS Group Company Mr. Huh Chang Soo to support the development of the capabilities of the National Assembly while meeting with the NA President in Seoul at the beginning of December.
