On September 22 the President of RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan received the delegation of the Assembly of European Regions (AER) led by the President of the Assembly, Vice-President of the Regional Council of Ile-de-France Michèle Sabban. The delegation comprised of the Secretary General of the Assembly of European Regions Klaus Klipp and the PACE member, Deputy Chairman of France-Armenia Friendship Group of the National Assembly of France Rene Rouquet.
Greeting the guests the President of the National Assembly documented with satisfaction the high level of the friendly relations between Armenia and France and expressed willingness to promote their strengthening in all spheres.
270 regions (or marzes) and 16 inter-regional organizations of 33 European countries join the Assembly of European Regions, Thanking for the warm reception the President of the Assembly Michèle Sabban noted that the exchange of the experience, opinions between the regions promote the peoples’ understanding and rapprochement. She expressed hope that in November of this year during the Assembly to be held in Istanbul the communities of Armenia also would join their organization. In Michèle Sabban’s words, she knows that the President of the National Assembly is well aware of the work and activities of the marzes and local self-government bodies, as for long years Hovik Abrahamyan has coordinated their work in the government.
Hovik Abrahamyanc onsidered important the idea of cooperation between the local self-government bodies and the regions and highly assessed the activity of the Assembly of European Regions and the membership of the Armenian communities to that organization, which would promote the strengthening of the local self-government bodies structure, inter-community and inter-regional cooperation and the joint solution of the existing problems. The Head of the Armenian Parliament considered important to endow the local self-government bodies with wide authorities and strengthen the communities.
The President of RA National Assembly proposed to hold within AER a conference of the communities of the Caucasus regional countries in Armenia.
