RA NA Speaker Has a Private Talk with the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament

On May 17 the official visit of László Kövér, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary to Armenia, began.

In the parliament the meetings began with the private talk of Hovik Abrahamyan, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and László Kövér, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary.

Welcoming the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan thanked him for accepting his invitation and visiting Armenia on an official visit and that his visit would open new perspectives of the development of the Armenian-Hungarian inter-parliamentary relations. To the NA Speaker’s conviction, Mr Kövér’s visit would also promote the strengtheing and development of bilateral relations. Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted the activation of cooperation with Hunagry in political, economic, cultural and other directions. “Armenia highlights the integration with Europe, and it is one of our foreign political priorities,” the NA Speaker noted.

Expressing his gratitude for invitation and warm reception László Kövér noted that it was the first time that the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament visited Armenia and expressed conviction that his visit would promote not only for deepening cooperation between the parliaments, but also the development of inter-state relations. He also considered necessary the development of bilateral relations in different spheres, underlining that there was non-used big potential of cooperation.

At the meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral interest, emphasized the deepening of cooperation in international structures, the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of bilateral relations and also touched upon regional problems. In this context NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that the conflicts should be solved as a result of peaceful negotiations, and the war in the 21st century was not an opportunity of the solution of problems. Expressing his consent with Hovik Abrahamyan, László Kövér expressed hope that all regional problems would be solved through peace and negotiations, excluding the military intervention. The sides agreed that the only format of the settlement of the NK conflict should be the OSCE Minsk Group.
