Experience of the Library of the U.S Congress Was Presented to the NA Employees

On April 23 a seminar on the theme "An Informed National Legislature: How The Library of Congress Serves the Research Needs of Congress," which was held within the framework of declaring Yerevan as World Book Capital and the 500th anniversary events of the Armenian Book Printing was organized by the support of the U.S. Embassy to RA for the specialists of the RA National Assembly Information Department and for the experts of the NA Standing Committees.

David Mao, Law Librarian of the U.S. Congress, presented the experience, structure and the functions of the U.S. Congress Library to the employees of the RA National Assembly, as well as the character of information services being served to the Congressmen and Senate members.

Touching upon the functions of the Library of Congress, David Mao has said that a number of divisions of the Library serve both the Congressmen and the community.

The three divisions of the Library, the Research Service Center, the Law Library and the Library Service, serve only the Congressmen and make research studies, hold comparative analyses on world legislation, as well as give information to the Congressmen on the concerning issue or law.

David Mao has said that 2,8mln books are kept in the Law Library created about 100 years ago, and most of them refer to other countries.

151mln materials, maps, TV programmes, journals, pictures, etc are in the other Library Service. One can get acquainted with the database of the library through the website. Besides, the Library of U.S. Congress organizes courses for the Congressmen, introduces the functions of the Library.

David Mao also answered the NA employees’ questions.
