On May 3 the Speaker of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan received Seyed Ali Saghayan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, who was completing his diplomatic mission in Armenia.
Welcoming the Ambassador in the National Assembly, Mr Nikoyan expressed satisfaction for effective cooperation. In his word, today the Armenian-Iranian relations are developing in a positive and progressive way, including all the spheres: political, trade-economic, and scientific-cultural.
The NA Speaker has noted that they highly appreciate the caring attitude of the Iranian authorities shown towards to the Armenian community and Armenian cultural values, which is the best example of tolerance towards other culture.
According to the Head of the RA Parliament progress is recorded in the bilateral economic relations, nevertheless, we can’t consider the existing volumes sufficient; as there is considerable potential, and we should activate the practical steps in rising the economic cooperation at the level of political contacts.
Touching upon the inter-parliamentary relations Mr Nikoyan noted that good traditions of cooperation are established. Especially lively relations are shaped between the Friendship Parliamentary Groups of Armenia-Iran of the RA National Assembly and Iran-Armenia of the IRI Majlis. Both sides expressed readiness to enliven the contacts and mutual visits at different parliamentary levels.
The sides also touched upon the issues of cooperation in regional and international structures. They have expressed conviction that the Armenian-Iranian cooperation contributes to the reinforcement of regional peace and stability. The Speaker of the parliament highlighted the balanced stance of the Iranian authorities in connection with the regional problems, particularly, in the Karabakh conflict.
“There has not been a problem, and there is no problem between Armenia and Iran,” said the Ambassador Saghayan, greatly emphasizing the Iranian-Armenians’ role in the friendly relations of the two countries. The Ambassador also stressed the necessity of deepening the economic cooperation, the efforts of the RA and IRI directed to the stability and security of the region, the importance of more enlivening of cultural contacts. Expressing his gratitude for the effective cooperation with the parliament, Mr Saghayan expressed confidence that it would also continue during the new Ambassador’s tenure.
Thanking for the effective activity the NA Speaker wished new successes to the Ambassador.
